Pricing and billing

GLMap has no monthly-active-user fees. You pay for two things:

  • Downloads of offline data to devices.
  • Online requests: map tiles, search, and routing served by our servers.

Using data that is already on a device — rendering, offline search, offline routing — costs nothing, however often your users open the app.

Rates​

Each month starts with a free allowance. Above it, rates are tiered: each tier's price applies only to the usage inside that tier.

What counts as a download​

  • Each dataset of a region is a separate download. Map, navigation, and elevation data are separate datasets: a region with all three is three downloads. Download only what your features need — see How offline data works.
  • Resuming an interrupted download does not count as a new download.
  • Updates. Map and navigation data are published as full snapshots once a month; each updated dataset you download is a download. Updates are optional: your app decides when, or whether, to download them, and installed data keeps working without them. Elevation data changes rarely — for example, when we add higher-resolution or generalized tiles — so it seldom needs to be downloaded again.

Downloaded data has no expiry date and needs no periodic online activation.

An app that does not update maps automatically. 10,000 new users a month each download one region with map, navigation, and elevation data: 30,000 downloads.

The cost is the same whether the app has 20,000 or 200,000 monthly active users, because existing users reuse data already on their devices.

The same app, updating maps every month. In addition, 50,000 existing users download the monthly map and navigation update for their region: 100,000 more downloads, 130,000 in total.

With monthly updates, cost grows with the number of users who update. How often to update is your decision, made in your app, rather than a consequence of how many people use it.

Invoices​

Usage is measured per calendar month and billed monthly in arrears in US dollars, normally by automatic card payment through Stripe. Taxes, rate changes, and other details are in the Terms of Service.
